GlobalLabSolutions Supports Cignpost in Delivering COVID-19 Testing for the New Zealand All Blacks During European Tour
In November 2021, Cignpost Diagnostics, supported by GlobalLabSolutions, was approached by the New Zealand All Blacks to provide PCR testing during their European Tour. The All Blacks had a demanding schedule, traveling through four countries in just four weeks, requiring regular COVID-19 testing every three days.
Drawing on their experience working with high-profile sports teams, including F1 teams, Scottish Football, and the European Tour Golf, Cignpost developed a testing strategy that minimized disruption for the entire All Blacks squad, coaches, management, and executives. After discussions with All Blacks team doctor James McGarvey, two key objectives were set: ensuring efficiency during sample collection, given the team’s tight schedule, and maintaining the bio-secure integrity of the team bubble.
GlobalLabSolutions played a crucial role by managing the deployment of testing personnel, equipment, and logistics. A specialized team of three was selected to oversee testing: a senior swabbing technician, a senior client manager, and a senior operations manager. To ensure the continued security of the All Blacks' bubble, all Cignpost staff were PCR tested every 48 hours, and a minimal travel footprint was implemented to reduce risk.
The All Blacks were exemplary in their planning and communication, helping ensure a smooth and secure testing process. Dr. James McGarvey emphasized the need to "maintain a low personnel profile" and limit external contacts, allowing Cignpost and GlobalLabSolutions to be the only external team members, alongside local coach drivers. Cignpost also provided testing for the New Zealand Rugby Executive team, ensuring all PCR tests were conducted and returned within 12 hours, with all results negative.
